As summer comes to an end, now is the time to prepare our skin for the tough months ahead. The cold, wind, and seemingly constant precipitation (in whatever form it decides to come at any given moment) all take a toll on our skin leaving us dry, cracked, and chapped. But it doesn’t need to be that way! Head these six simple tips and you will be glowing all winter long!
-
1) Switch Cleansers: As the weather changes, try changing your cleanser to one of a creamier consistency. Try using a crème, lotion, or milk based cleanser as they will provide the extra moisture your skin will so desperately crave! Remember that your summer skin care routine will not cut it come winter—it’s a whole new battle, baby!
-
2) Take on a Toner: Lose the astringent and replace it with a toner for the winter months. Astringents tend to dry out the skin and the last thing most people need in the winter is something to dry them out even more!
-
3) Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize: Consider switching to a heavier cream, for both your body and your face. Apply lotions and moisturizers liberally during the winter months to prevent itching, as the moisture evaporates more quickly due to the biting cold and wind. For people who seek additional relief, you can try pure oils such as Jojoba oil and olive oil for a super dose of moisture!
-
4) Exfoliate Often: Maintain a skincare routine during the winter months that calls for you to exfoliate at least 2 times per week to give your skin the best shot at staying moisturized. Don’t forget to exfoliate your body as well—every inch of your skin needs to stay moisturized!
-
5) Get your Blood Flowing: To get the glow you so desperately crave, try some at-home hydrotherapy. Take a hot shower, as you regularly would, but before stepping out switch the water to cold for 15 seconds. Repeat this process for two minutes. This will give you the glow you desire by getting your blood pumping under the skin.
-
6) Get Steamy: Apply lotions or creams immediately after your bath or shower, while the heat and steam are still lingering, to maximize your skins ability to absorb the moisture.
